Crystals For Anxiety

Thinking about writing this post put me on edge. I have a lump in my throat and am forcing myself to breathe slowly and deliberately. I'd like to cry, and I'm not even sure why.

My brand of anxiety is worse in the morning. It's like I wake up each day and I'm ok until I remember all the things that stress me out, all the things I have to do, and all the mistakes I have made in the past. My nervous system goes haywire, like I drank 6 cups of coffee, the fear sets in, my heart races, my pulse quickens, my breathing is just silly.

I know better. I have learned through life experiences of actually living my worst fears that worrying and stressing about those things doesn't make you able to survive it better or give you strength. It just makes it worse. And frankly the vast majority of my fears and worries never happen. It's a crazy thing we do to ourselves, and it serves no purpose.

The biggest thing I have learned about addressing fear, worry, and anxiety is that while you are experiencing those feelings, you are not present in your current situation. And if you can get yourself in the present, you can dissipate the anxiety. You can even train yourself to talk yourself off the ledge by getting present.

Anxiety has to be one of the most awful things we can feel. Its low, constant hum cuts through our peace, creating great chasms of fear, uncertainty, and isolation. And while there is no quote, no book, no easy resolution that we can turn to to solve it, there are some steps we can take and some crystals that we can lean into to help support us through times like these.


BLACK ONYX for stress relief

Black Onyx alleviates stress and worry and anchors in strength. It works to amplify self confidence so you feel at ease in your surroundings. It helps to calm grief, anxiety, and fear. It also slows your mind, allows space for your breath to relax your heart and blood pressure. While Black Onyx encourages a stepping back approach with your body, it too works to relax the mind, allowing errant thoughts to disappear and peace to fill the space left behind.

Black Onyx is best worn, if possible, around the neck or on the wrist. Putting your fingers on the stone regularly and closing your eyes as you do will help you to focus on the deep healing properties of Black Onyx. As you close your eyes and feel the vibration, imagine the stone's soft golden light penetrating your fingers and going directly to your heart. Breathe in through the heart and send the light to your brain. Continue this breath, eyes closed for at least 5 minutes and you'll feel an immediate difference in your stress level.


AMMONITE for grounding

An Ammonite is a fossilized ancient sea creature that is million and millions of years old and holds the peace of the earth inside it. It feels extremely calming when you hold one in your hand. They are steady reminders that over time wisdom is learned, peace can be acquired, and steadiness is a matter of recognizing the innate peace already within you.

Ammonites should be held in your hands while you sit or lie down. As you breathe deeply imagine the calm flow of earth's energy moving through your hands, into your arms, into your chest, and through the rest of your body. Do this for at least five minutes and you'll feel more grounded.


LARIMAR to soothe

Larimar is a rare stone, only found in the Dominican Republic. It calms the mind, anchors in personal peace, raises consciousness, and brings harmony and balance within the physical and emotional body temples. Larimar's calming energy is reminiscent of waves lapping the shore of a beautiful white sand beach.

Larimar works best if held or worn. Sit in a cross legged position or as close to it as you can get. Hold or wear the Larimar around your neck. Imagine yourself at the edge of the ocean, sitting on the sand, feeling the sun and smelling the salt air. Breathe in, release, breathe in, release, breathe in, release—focusing only on slowing your breath, each time you breathe. Larimar has a beautiful way of transporting you right to the edge of the sea. Enjoy the soothing and refreshing energy that Larimar so generously and gently gives.


LEPIDOLITE for inner peace

Lepidolite has a soothing, nurturing energy that helps you connect to, respect, and love your inner self. It helps to calm and balance emotions and protect you from outer influences so that you may maintain your inner peace—like your grandmother in crystal form.

To feel the effects of Lepidolite, lay down on your back with one arm extended out, near your side but not touching your side. Place the stone on your forearm and close your eyes. As you breathe deeply imagine the Lepidolite gently penetrating your arm and merging with your body. As you imagine the stone slowly sinking in, also imagine a great, soothing velvety purple light emanating from the stone. Allow the light, little by little, to move through your body. Continue to breathe and visualize until you are completely covered in the light. Get up very slowly when you do and keep the stone near you for the next day or so.


HOWLITE for calm & serenity

Howlite can offer emotional support in the way of acting as a diffuser or release trigger for anger. It helps with anxiety and it promotes calm. Howlite helps to literally cleanse the aura and align the chakras, which clears out blockages that can cause stress and physical tightness.

Howlite can be worn or held or even applied to the chakras as you lay down. If you only have one piece of Howlite, hold it in one hand and put your hand on your heart. If you have multiple pieces, best to start placing one on the crown chakra and one on the sacral chakra. You can fill in the rest of the chakras, depending on how many pieces you have. Howlite works well with meditation music, so play some as you relax and feel the peaceful, calming, soothing serenity of Howlite. As you breathe with the pieces on you, allow your exhales to meet the floor and imagine the energy moving out of your body and into Mother Earth.
